Benoît Lallemand

Benoît Lallemand is the outgoing Secretary General of Finance Watch, the Brussels-based non-profit dedicated to making finance serve society. He is Vice President of the Tellus Institute and Director of the Great Transition Campaign—which springs from the Great Transition Initiative (2003–2025), itself the child of the Global Scenario Group (1995–2002). Lallemand has spent eleven years in the financial sector, where he held various senior positions. This experience in the private sector allowed him to develop hands-on expertise on the functioning of the financial system, as well as project and people management skills. He joined Finance Watch as one of its first employees in 2011. The association was created in the aftermath of the Great Financial Crisis (2007–2008) to provide a public interest counterweight to the influence of the financial lobby on financial reform processes. He became its Secretary General in 2017. Beyond strengthening the impact and resilience of the organization, he founded initiatives such as the Citizens Dashboard of Finance and the Change Finance coalition. Lallemand holds a Masters in Philosophy (1997) and a multidisciplinary post-graduate diploma in international affairs (1999) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. As a student activist, he participated in the alter-globalization movement in the late 1990s and contributed to creating the Belgian branch of ATTAC (Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and for Citizens Action).
